    Bio

A shareholder of the firm and a member of Otten Johnson's real estate group, Randy has extensive experience in complex commercial purchase, sale and financing transactions, receivership issues, loan workouts and restructuring (representing both lenders and borrowers), foreclosures, commercial leasing transactions, title insurance and title related matters.

Known for his intense focus on the legal needs of his clients, he enjoys working with "intelligent, highly motivated people who are all extremely successful in their chosen fields." Randy believes that lawyers should serve as intrinsic members of every client's team:  "We are not simply consultants engaged to give advice concerning arcane legal issues.  Instead, we should be included as an integral component in all facets of each client's business transactions team."

Randy is currently the chair of the firm's recruiting committee.  He has also served as the firm's summer associate program director; as a member of the firm's compensation committee; and as the coordinator of the firm's real estate department.

Randy's representative clients (including those clients of Otten Johnson for which he has done substantial work) include: Affinity Bank; First Federal Savings Bank of  Iowa; Fidelity Bank; Murphy Oil USA, Inc.; American General Life Insurance Company;  SunAmerica Life Insurance Company; Vail Resorts Development Company; The Sports Authority; Commander Leasing Company; Aero Tech Investments; Stonebridge Realty Advisors, Inc.; The Stonebridge Companies; Frontier Airlines; L.G. Everist, Inc.; PowerLight Corporation; RCI West, Inc.; and Eagle Gaming.

Having consummated numerous large, complex loans, leases and acquisitions, Randy still enjoys working with his smaller clients. "Their legal needs are real and personal because their business is their livelihood. They generate some of the most interesting legal issues, even though they are not large corporate clients, and the business people are usually very personable and directly engaged in the issues affecting their companies."

Randy enjoys the practice of law and cannot imagine working in another profession, that is, "unless I could skate and handle a puck like Joe Sakic!"

Randy maintains an "AV" rating with Martindale-Hubbell.
